A STAGGERING 45 SONGS WERE WRITTEN BY BILLIE JOE ARMSTRONG FOR THE RECORD BEFORE THE GROUP HAD A CHANCE TO GO INTO THE STUDIO AND RECORD THE PROJECT. ARMSTRONG DESCRIBED THE ALBUM AS:

THE ALBUM WAS FUELED BY 2 HIT SINGLES, ‘KNOW YOUR ENEMY’ AND ‘21 GUNS’. IN 2010 ‘21ST CENTURY BREAKDOWN’ WON THE GRAMMY FOR THE “BEST ROCK ALBUM” AND HAS SOLD OVER 4 MILLION COPIES WORLDWIDE.
