LAMONT’S MUSIC NOTES- OCT 11, 2019…ON THIS DATE 28 YEARS AGO, A 21 YEAR OLD DAVE GROHL DEBUTED AS NIRVANA’S DRUMMER. HIS FIRST GIG WITH THE BAND TOOK PLACE AT THE NORTH SHORE SURF CLUB IN OLYMPIA, WASHINGTON. UP TO THAT POINT THE GROUP HAD CYCLED THROUGH 5 DIFFERENT DRUMMERS. GROHL TOLD “ROLLING STONE MAGAZINE” IN AN INTERVIEW: “I think one of the reasons they wanted me was that I sang backup vocals. I don’t remember them saying, ‘You’re in the band.’ We just continued.”
