LAMONT’S MUSIC NOTES-JUNE 26, 2019…BILL GRAHAM’S “DAY ON THE GREEN” CONCERTS WERE CONCERTS THAT REALLY WERE THE PROTOTYPES FOR FESTIVAL SHOWS. STAGED ON THE LAWN OF THE OAKLAND COLISEUM, THE DAY ON THE GREEN CONCERTS WERE A SUMMER SERIES OF CONCERTS THAT GRAHAM STARTED IN 1973 AND THEY CONTINUED UNTIL SHORTLY AFTER HIS DEATH AS A RESULT OF A HELICOPTER CRASH IN 1991. ON THIS DATE IN 1982 AN EPIC CONCERT WAS HELD WITH THE LINE-UP FEATURING THE TUBES, GAMMA, TOTO, SANTANA, AND JOURNEY AT THE HEIGHT OF THEIR SUCCESS, TOURING IN SUPPORT OF THEIR ALBUM ‘ESCAPE.’
THE VIDEO IS A LITTLE GRAINY, BUT HERE’S JOURNEY’S PERFORMANCE AT THE “DAY ON THE GREEN 1982”.
