IT’S HIS BDAY, IT’S HIS BDAY !!!

LAMONT’S MUSIC NOTES-JUNE 2, 2019…TODAY ROLLING STONES DRUMMER CHARLIE WATTS IS 78 ! WATTS JOINED THE STONES IN 1963. AT THE TIME, HE WAS WORKING IN VARIOUS PROJECTS PART-TIME AND WAS WORKING AT AN ADVERTISING AGENCY AS A GRAPHIC ARTIST. AS A MATTER OF FACT, WHEN HE JOINED THE GROUP HE DOUBLED AT THE PERSON IN CHARGE OF DESIGNING THE BAND’S RECORD SLEEVES AND TOUR STAGES.

A GREAT CHARLIE WATTS STORY HAS TO DO WITH AN INCIDENT WITH MICK JAGGER IN THE 80’S. AN INTOXICATED JAGGER CALLED WATTS’ HOTEL ROOM IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT ASKING “WHERE’S MY DRUMMER?”. ACCORDING TO LEGEND, WATTS GOT UP, SHAVED, DRESSED IN A SUIT, PUT ON A TIE AND FRESHLY SHINED SHOES. HE LOOKED IMPECCABLE. HE THEN WENT DOWNSTAIRS, PUNCHED JAGGER IN THE FACE, AND SAID:

“Don’t ever call me your drummer again. You’re my f***ing singer!”

HERE’S THE GREATEST VIDEO OF THE STONES PLAYING JUMPING JACK FLASH…THE CAMERA MAN ONLY SHOWS CHARLIE !!
