MICHAEL McDONALD’S 67TH BDAY

LAMONT’S MUSIC NOTES-FEB 12, 2019…HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MICHAEL MCDONALD. MCDONALD JOINED STEELY DAN IN 1974, AS A TOURING BAND MEMBER, AND THEN SESSION PLAYER. HE WAS ASKED TO JOIN THE DOOBIE BROTHERS IN 1975 AS A TEMPORARY REPLACEMENT FOR TOM JOHNSON AFTER JOHNSON BECAME ILL ON A NATIONAL TOUR. HOWEVER, THE BAND ENJOYED SUCH HUGE SUCCESS WITH MCDONALD, THEY ASKED HIM TO STAY. WITH MCDONALD IN THE GROUP THE BAND SCORED HITS LIKE ‘TAKIN’ TO THE STREETS’ ‘MINUTE BY MINUTE’ AND ‘WHAT A FOOL BELIEVES’.

AFTER THE DOOBIES, HE WENT ON TO HAVE A VERY SUCCESSFUL SOLO CAREER. MCDONALD HAS WON 5 GRAMMY AWARDS, AND HAS BEEN NOMINATED 13 TIMES.
