LAMONT’S MUSIC NOTES-NOV 4, 2019…THIRTY EIGHT YEARS AGO THE ALBUM ‘MOB RULES’ FROM BLACK SABBATH HIT THE CHARTS. THIS WAS THE SECOND (AND LAST) BLACK SABBATH ALBUM TO FEATURE RONNIE JAMES DIO ON LEAD VOCALS UNTIL THE “MOB RULES LINE-UP” REUNITED FOR 1992’S ‘DEHUHUMANIZER’. THIS WAS ALSO THE FIRST SABBATH ALBUM TO FEATURE VINNY APPICE ON DRUMS, WHO REPLACED BILL WARD IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ‘HEAVEN AND HELL’ TOUR. IN AN INTERVIEW IN 2007, GEEZER BUTLER WAS ASKED IF IT WAS TOUGH GETTING USED TO A DIFFERENT DRUMMER AFTER WORKING ALL THOSE YEARS WITH ORIGINAL MEMBER BILL WARD, GEEZER HAD THIS TO SAY:”No, because Vinnie was a big fan of the band and loved Bill’s playing. Bill was one of his favourite drummers and so he knew all his parts and my bass parts and he adjusted accordingly to everybody in the band. He was brilliant. He came in and totally filled in Bill’s shoes.”
TO DATE ‘THE MOB RULES’ HAS SOLD OVER 2 MILLION COPIES. HERE’S DIO AND BLACK SABBATH LIVE IN NY PERFORMING THE TITLE TRACK FROM THE ALBUM
