LAMONT’S MUSIC NOTES-JAN 11, 2020…FORTY NINE YEARS AGO THE ALBUM “PEARL” BY JANIS JOPLIN WAS POSTHUMOUSLY RELEASED. THIS WAS ONLY THE SECOND SOLO RECORD RELEASE BY JOPLIN, AND THE LAST ALBUM THAT INVOLVED HER DIRECT PARTICIPATION. JOPLIN. ALL NINE SONGS ON ‘PEARL’ WERE PERSONALLY APPROVED AND ARRANGED BY JOPLIN. IT’S ALSO THE ONLY JOPLIN ALBUM RECORDED WITH ‘THE FULL TILT BOOGIE BAND’ HER FINAL TOURING GROUP. SADLY, ON OCTOBER 4,1970 JOPLIN WAS FOUND DEAD IN ROOM 105 OF THE LANDMARK HOTEL OF A HEROIN OVERDOSE. SHE LEFT $1500 IN HER WILL FOR A FUNERAL PARTY. THE PARTY WAS HELD OCT 26,1971 AT THE LION’S SHARE IN SAN ANSELMO. THE GRATEFUL DEAD PERFORMED.
