LAMONT’S MUSIC NOTES-FEB 24, 2019…44 YEARS AGO LED ZEPPELIN RELEASED THE ALBUM PHYSICAL GRAFFITI. IT WAS THE GROUP’S SIXTH STUDIO ALBUM AND THE RECORDING OF THE ALBUM WAS DISRUPTED WHEN THE GROUP’S BASSIST AND KEYBOARDIST JOHN PAUL JONES SAID HE WAS THINKING OF QUITTING THE BAND. THE RUMOR WAS HE WAS GOING TO BECOME A CHOIRMASTER AT WINCHESTER CATHEDRAL, ALTHOUGH IN TRUTH HE JUST WANTED TO TAKE A REST FROM ZEPPELIN’S TOURING SCHEDULE. THE GROUP DECIDED ON A DOUBLE ALBUM SO THEY COULD FEATURE SONGS THAT WERE LEFT OVER FROM THEIR PREVIOUS ALBUMS LED ZEPPELIN III, LED ZEPPELIN IV, AND HOUSES OF THE HOLY. PHYSICAL GRAFFITI DEBUTED AT NUMBER ONE IN BOTH ENGLAND AND THE USA, AND IN THE UNITED STATES IS 16 TIMES PLATINUM.
