LAMONT’S MUSIC NOTES-JAN 8, 2020-HAPPY 74TH BIRTHDAY TO ROBBY KRIEGER. KRIEGER IS BEST KNOWN AS THE DOORS GUITARIST. A LOT OF PEOPLE DON’T KNOW THAT KRIEGER ACTUALLY LEARNED TO PLAY GUITAR WHILE LIVING IN THE BAY AREA. HE ATTENDED BOARDING SCHOOL IN MENLO PARK AND IT WAS WHILE HE WAS ATTENDING SCHOOL THAT HE DE-TUNED A UKULELE AND PLAYED ALONG WITH RECORDS. HE LATER WENT TO MEXICO ON A CHRISTMAS BREAK, AND BOUGHT A GUITAR AND LEARNED HOW TO PLAY FLAMENCO GUITAR. IT WAS WHILE AT MENLO SCHOOL HE FORMED A BAND AND PLAYED FLAMENCO, FOLK, BLUES AND JAZZ. ROLLING STONE MAGAZINE CALLS KRIEGER ONE OF THE “GREATEST GUITARISTS OF ALL TIME.” KRIEGER WROTE OR CO-WROTE MANY OF THE DOORS HITS.
