TALKING HEADS-MORE SONGS ABOUT BUILDINGS AND FOOD

LAMONT’S MUSIC NOTES-JULY 7, 2019…FORTY ONE YEARS AGO THE TALKING HEADS GAVE US THEIR SECOND STUDIO ALBUM ‘MORE SONGS ABOUT BUILDINGS AND FOOD’

THIS ALBUM PRODUCED THE GROUP’S FIRST TOP 30 SINGLE, A COVER OF AL GREEN’S ‘TAKE ME TO THE RIVER’. THIS SONG REALLY PROVED TO BE A BREAKTHROUGH FOR THE GROUP, WHOSE ONLY APPEARANCE ON THE CHARTS WAS ‘PSYCHO KILLER’ WHICH REACHED #92. THEIR RENDITION OF ‘TAKE ME TO THE RIVER’ EARNED THE BAND AN INVITATION TO PERFORM ON “AMERICAN BANDSTAND” WHICH GAVE THE TALKING HEADS THEIR FIRST HUGE TV EXPOSURE.

ACCORDING TO THE TALKING HEADS’ BASSIST TINA WEYMOUTH, THE TITLE OF THE ALBUM CAME ABOUT KIND OF ACCIDENTALLY:

“When we were making this album I remembered this stupid discussion we had about titles for the last album, At that time I said, ‘What are we gonna call an album that’s just about buildings and food?’ And Chris said, ‘You call it more songs about buildings and food.”

THE FRONT COVER OF THE ALBUM IS UNIQUE. IT’S AN ACTUAL PHOTOMOSAIC OF THE BAND COMPRISED OF 529 CLOSE UP POLAROID PHOTOGRAPHS.
