LAMONT’S MUSIC NOTES-JULY 15, 2019…ON THIS DATE IN 1975 THE ROLLING STONES KICKED OFF THE FIRST OF TWO CONSECUTIVE NIGHTS AT THE COW PALACE. IT WAS THE “MADE IN THE SHADE” TOUR. THIS TOUR MARKED THE FIRST TOUR FOR THE GROUP WITH RONNIE WOOD. HE WAS REPLACING MICK TAYLOR WHO LEFT THE BAND EARLIER IN THE YEAR. WOOD WAS ANNOUNCED AS A TOURING GUITARIST AT FIRST, AND WASN’T NAMED AN OFFICIAL MEMBER OF THE STONES UNTIL AFTER THE TOUR IN DECEMBER.
THIS TOUR ALSO SAW THE STONES EMBRACE THEATRICAL STAGE PROPS. A GIANT INFLATABLE PENIS WAS ADDED TO THE SHOW. THE BAND NICKNAMED IT “TIRED GRANDFATHER” SINCE IT SOMETIMES MALFUNCTIONED.
