WITCHY WOMAN

LAMONT’S MUSIC NOTES-AUGUST 1, 2019…FORTY SEVEN YEARS AGO THE EAGLES RELEASE THE SINGLE ‘WITCHY WOMAN.’ IT’S A SONG THAT WAS WRITTEN BY BERNIE LEADON AND DON HENLEY. IT’S ONE OF THE FIRST SONGS THAT HENLEY WROTE. ACCORDING TO THE LINER NOTES FOR “THE VERY BEST OF THE EAGLES” THE SONG ORIGINATED WITH LEADON PLAYING “A STRANGE, MINOR-KEY RIFF THAT SOUNDED SORT OF LIKE A HOLLYWOOD MOVIE VERSION OF INDIAN MUSIC.” THE SONGS LYRICS DIDN’T DEVELOP UNTIL HENLEY WENT DOWN WITH A FLU AND HIGH FEVER WHILE READING A BOOK ABOUT ZELDA FITZGERALD. ACCORDING TO HENLEY:

“I think that figured into the mix somehow – along with amorphous images of girls I had met at the Whisky and the Troubadour.”

‘WITCHY WOMAN’ WAS THE SECOND SINGLE RELEASED FROM THE BAND’S DEBUT ALBUM. IT REACHED #9 ON BILLBOARD’S TOP 100 CHART. HENLY HAD THIS TO SAY ABOUT THE SONG:

“An important song for me, because it marked the beginning of my professional songwriting career

THIS IS A FREAKIN’ AMAZING SONG
