WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS

LAMONT’S MUSIC NOTES- OCT 1, 2019- ON THIS DATE IN 1968 JOE COCKER RELEASED ONE OF THE GREATEST REMAKES…EVER . THE SINGLE ‘WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS.’ THE BEATLES RECORDED IT A YEAR EARLIER, BUT NEVER RELEASED IT AS A SINGLE. THE BEATLES WERE SO IMPRESSED WITH COCKER’S VERSION THEY SENT HIM A TELEGRAM OF CONGRATULATIONS AND PLACED AN AD IN THE MUSIC TRADES PRAISING THE SONG. THE SONG WAS SOULFUL AND FEATURED MASTERFUL GUITAR WORK FROM JIMMY PAGE AND A BRILLIANT GOSPEL CHOIR SINGING BACKGROUND VOCALS. THE SONG WENT TO NUMBER ONE FOR COCKER AND IN 2001 WAS INDUCTED INTO THE GRAMMY HALL OF FAME.
