THE SCORPIONS HIT PAYDIRT WITH ‘LOVE AT FIRST STING’. THIS WAS THE 9TH STUDIO ALBUM FROM THE SCORPIONS, AND IT WAS HUGE. THE RECORD WAS DRIVEN BY 3 HUGE SINGLES ‘BIG CITY NIGHTS’ ‘STILL LOVING YOU’ AND THEIR SIGNATURE SONG ‘ROCK YOU LIKE A HURRICANE.’
IN AN INTERVIEW RUDOLPH SCHENKER SAID:
“I think ‘Rock You Like A Hurricane’ is a perfect rock anthem, which talks about attitude and sexuality. It’s very important to recognize the tension between the verses and the chorus. I think Klaus (Meine) went over the lyrics around eight or nine times because the first lyrics of the song went something like ‘blah blah blah blah.’ And we said, ‘No! The song is not feeling right.’ But at the ninth or tenth time, it came.
The lyric goes: ‘The bitch is hungry, she needs to tell, so give her inches and feed her well.’ This was the tension between the ‘Rock You Like A Hurricane’ chorus, and the words to the verses. This is what makes the song great. And the funny thing is, the girls, when they’re talking about ‘Rock You Like A Hurricane,’ they say, ‘Oh, I love your song ‘Rock Me Like A Hurricane’.

OUTSIDE OF THEIR HOME. WHEN POLICE ARRIVED OUTSIDE THEIR BURBANK RESIDENCE RESPONDING TO NEIGHBOR’S COMPLAINTS, THEY FOUND A BIN OF SMOLDERING CLOTHES.

LAMONT’S MUSIC NOTES-MARCH 27, 2019…IT’S HARD TO BELIEVE IT WAS 32 YEARS AGO TODAY U2 PERFORMED FROM THE ROOF OF A STORE IN DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES TO SHOOT THE VIDEO ‘WHERE THE STREETS HAVE NO NAME’
TRAFFIC CAME TO A STANDSTILL AND THE IMPROMPTU CONCERT DREW THOUSANDS OF SPECTATORS, SHUTTING DOWN THE NEIGHBORHOOD. THE POLICE HAD TO STOP THE VIDEO TO BRING NORMALCY.

FROM THE EARLY SUCCESS OF AEROSMITH WITH HITS LIKE ‘DREAM ON’ ‘WALK THIS WAY’ AND ‘SWEET EMOTION’ THROUGH THE ROUGH PATCH OF HIS DRUG ADDICTION AND EVENTUALLY THE AEROSMITH COMEBACK OF ‘LOVE IN AN ELEVATOR’ AND ‘DUDE LOOKS LIKE A LADY, TYLER HAS DONE IT ALL. THIS GUY IS A FREAKIN’ SURVIVOR. HIS CAREER HAS SPANNED OVER 5 DECADES AND HE’S EXPERIENCED EVERY HIGH AND EVERY LOW. LAMONT’S MUSIC NOTES-MARCH 26, 2019…ON THIS DATE IN 1996 STP RELEASED THEIR THIRD ALBUM ‘TINY MUSIC… SONGS FROM THE VATICAN GIFT SHOP’. AFTER TAKING A BREAK IN 1995 THE BAND HOLED UP AT A MANSION IN SANTA BARBARA WHERE THEY RECORDED THE ALBUM.
‘TINY MUSIC’ PRODUCED 3 HIT SINGLES ON THE ROCK CHARTS, BUT SALES OF THE ALBUM STALLED WHEN STP CANCELLED A GOOD PORTION OF THEIR TOUR TO ENABLE SCOTT WEILAND TO GO TO REHAB.
EVEN WITH THE SETBACK IN TOURING, THE ALBUM SOLD 2 MILLION COPIES (STILL SHORT OF THE OTHER 2 ALBUMS BUT IMPRESSIVE COMMERCIALLY NONETHELESS).

Passengers on a cruise off of Norway’s coast took the ride of their lives, but not in the fun way they expected at all.
Police say the cruise ship Viking Sky issued a mayday call Saturday off of Norway’s western coast due to engine problems amid high waves and strong winds.
The ship’s 1,300 passengers and crew had to be evacuated by several helicopters and ships after Norway’s sea rescue agency received the distress signal. Ultimately, 500 were airlifted before the ship was able to be towed to safety.
And now that the ship has safely docked, passengers have been sharing incredible video…and it’s terrifying. Furniture, glass structures, chairs, pretty much everything not tied down, was thrashed around by the rough seas.
Lucky, for the passengers, the cruise line had a highly trained staff, that kept their cool during the scary ordeal.

LAMONT’S MUSIC NOTES-MARCH 25, 2019…HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO REGINALD KENNETH DWIGHT, BETTER KNOWN AS ELTON JOHN. TODAY IS HIS 72ND BIRTHDAY. THE NAME ELTON COMES FROM ELTON DEAN, A BLUESOLOGY SAX PLAYER. JOHN COMES FROM LONG JOHN BALDRY, A BRITISH R&B SINGER. IN 1974, HE MADE ‘ELTON HERCULES JOHN’ HIS LEGAL NAME. HERCULES WAS THE NAME OF A HORSE FROM A BRITISH SHOW WHICH HE ENJOYED.
HERE’S SOME ELTON JOHN TRIVIA:
-He won a piano scholarship when he was 11 to the Royal Academy of Music.
-When Elton auditioned for Liberty Records, they liked his performance, but not his songs. So they gave him a bunch of Taupin’s lyrics, and that’s how the two met. He also famously auditioned for rock groups King Crimson and Gentle Giant … and was rejected by both.
-Has played piano on records by many different artists including George Harrison, John Lennon, Rod Stewart, Bon Jovi, Jackson Browne, Ringo Starr, the Hollies, and Bob Dylan.
-John’s American debut at Los Angeles’ Troubadour featured handstands on his piano and members of the Spencer Davis Group backing him. He was an instant critical success.
-As a child, John didn’t need glasses, but wore them anyway to look like Buddy Holly. They damaged his eyes so much that he was soon forced to wear them.
-After he topped a poll by Cadbury to find Britain’s favorite personality, Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum in London made a statue of Elton out of 227 lbs of Cadbury’s Dairy Milk Chocolate. He’s the first solo rock star to get a wax portrait made by Madame Tussaud’s. The Beatles were the first rock band.
-His 1975 album Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy was a charting milestone for the singer and the industry. Not only was it his first album to enter the US charts at #1, it was the first time an artist ever debuted at the top of the Billboard 200. His other 1975 album, Rock of the Westies, was the second.
-He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994 by Guns ‘N’ Roses lead singer Axl Rose, who calls John a major influence.
-John was made an Officer of Arts and Letters by France, one of their highest distinctions.
-At one point, John was responsible for 3% of all records sold on the planet.
