IN THROUGH THE OUT DOOR

LAMONT’S MUSIC NOTES-AUGUST 15 2019- FORTY YEARS AGO LED ZEPPELIN RELEASED ‘IN THROUGH THE OUT DOOR’

THIS WAS THE EIGHTH AND FINAL STUDIO ALBUM FROM ZEP, AND THE ONLY ALBUM RELEASED BY THE BAND IN THEIR LAST 4 YEARS OF EXISTENCE.

IN 1980 JOHN BONHAM DIED AND THE GROUP DISBANDED SOON THEREAFTER, VOWING NOT TO GO ON WITHOUT THEIR DRUMMER.

‘IN THROUGH THE OUT DOOR’ HAS SOLD OVER 11,500,000 MILLION COPIES.

HERE’S A GREAT LIVE VERSION OF ‘IN THE EVENING’

‘LOVE IN AN ELEVATOR’

LAMONT’S MUSIC NOTES-AUGUST 15 2019- THIRTY YEARS AGO AEROSMITH RELEASED ‘LOVE IN AN ELEVATOR’

STEVEN TYLER BASED THE SONG ON A TRUE STORY ON ONE OF HIS PRE-SOBRIETY DAYS WHEN HE FOUND HIMSELF IN A HOTEL HOT TUB WITH A BEVY OF WOMEN. WHEN IT CAME TIME TO MOVE THE PARTY TO HIS ROOM, THEY MOVED INTO THE HOTEL ELEVATOR WEARING NOTHING BUT TOWELS AND ROBES. WHEN ONE OF THE WOMEN OPENED HER ROBE TO SHOW TYLER HER GOODS, THE ELEVATOR DOOR OPENED TO GIVE EVERYONE IN THE LOBBY A GOOD VIEW AS WELL. THE LIFE OF ROCK N’ ROLL!

THIS MIGHT BE THE GREATEST AEROSMITH VIDEO...GOING DOWN ?

WHO’S NEXT

LAMONT’S MUSIC NOTES-AUGUST 14 2019- FORTY EIGHT YEARS AGO THE WHO RELEASED THEIR FIFTH STUDIO ALBUM ‘WHO’S NEXT.’

MANY CONSIDER THIS ALBUM AS ONE OF THE WHO’S FINEST RECORDS AND ONE OF THE GREATEST ALBUMS OF ALL TIME. IT WAS POWERED BY FIVE HIT SINGLES ‘BABA O’RILEY’ ‘GOING MOBILE’ ‘BARGAIN’ ‘BEHIND BLUE EYES’ AND THE 81/2 MINUTE ANTHEM ‘WON’T GET FOOLED AGAIN’ ( WITH ROGER DALTREY SUPPLYING ROCK AND ROLL’S GREATEST SCREAM )

THE ARTWORK ON THE ALBUM COVER SHOWS THE GROUP APPARENTLY HAVING JUST URINATED ON A LARGE STONE STRUCTURE. ACCORDING TO THE PHOTOGRAPHER MOST OF THE BAND MEMBERS WERE UNABLE TO TINKLE, SO WATER WAS POURED FROM A CANISTER TO GET THE EFFECT THEY WERE LOOKING FOR.

‘WHO’S NEXT’ HAS SOLD OVER 5 MILLION COPIES TO DATE.

HERE’S A GREAT LIVE VERSION OF ‘WON’T GET FOOLED AGAIN’ FROM 1978

LAMONT’S MUSIC NOTES-AUGUST 13, 2019-MICK JAGGER AND JERRY HALL WERE A COUPLE STARTING IN 1977 AND WERE MARRIED IN BALI WITH A PRIVATE CEREMONY IN 1990. THEY HAD 4 KIDS TOGETHER. THEN JERRY CAUGHT MICK CHEATING. RUH-ROH!!

HALL FILED FOR DIVORCE AND WAS LOOKING FOR THE EQUIVALENT OF APPROXIMATELY $ 36,500,000 IN ALIMONY AND CHILD SUPPORT.

ON THIS DATE IN 1999 THE JUDGE RULED THE COUPLE’S MARRIAGE IN BALI WAS NULL AND VOID, AND WASN’T VALID EITHER IN INDONESIA OR UNDER ENGLISH LAW. HALL GOT NOTHING.

THE ALBUM Pronounced ‘Lĕh-‘nérd ‘Skin-‘nérd

LAMONT’S MUSIC NOTES-AUGUST 13, 2019…ON THIS DATE IN 1973 LYNYRD SKYNYRD RELEASED THEIR DEBUT ALBUM Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd.

HERE ARE SOME QUICK FACTOIDS SURROUNDING THE ALBUM AND SKYNYRD:

-THE BAND WAS DISCOVERED BY MUSICIAN AND PRODUCER AL KOOPER

-KOOPER HAD THEM PLAY THEIR 12 SONGS AND 9 MADE THE DEBUT ALBUM

-THE RECORD PRODUCED FOUR CLASSIC SKYNYRD SONGS ‘TUESDAY’S GONE’ ‘GIMME THREE STEPS’ ‘SIMPLE MAN’ AND ‘FREE BIRD’

-THE RECORD COMPANY DIDN’T WANT ‘FREEBIRD’ ON THE ALBUM, SAYING IT WAS TOO LONG

- ‘GIMME THREE STEPS’ WAS BASED ON A TRUE LIFE STORY. RONNIE VAN ZANT WAS 18 AND USED A FAKE I.D. TO GET INTO A BAR. ROSSINGTON AND COLLINS WERE YOUNGER AND WAITING FOR HIM IN THE TRUCK. VAN ZANT WAS WAS DANCING WITH A GAL AND HER BOYFRIEND CAME AFTER VAN ZANT AND REACHED FOR SOMETHING IN HIS BOOT. RONNIE TOLD HIM:

“If you’re going to shoot me it will be in the ass or the elbows...just gimme three steps and I’ll be gone.”

HE MADE IT TO THE TRUCK AND THE THREE OF THEM WROTE THE SONG THAT NIGHT

-‘TUESDAY’S GONE’ IS ABOUT A GIRL ACTUALLY NAMED TUESDAY, AND IS ABOUT GOING AWAY AND LEAVING HER BEHIND

-BASSIST LEON WILKESON LEFT THE GROUP BEFORE THE RECORDING SESSIONS STARTED

-HE WAS REPLACED BY GUITARIST ED KING

-AFTER THE ALBUM WAS RECORDED THE BAND MOVED KING TO GUITAR AND BEGGED WILKESON TO COME BACK

-WILKESON MADE IT BACK IN TIME TO SHOOT THE ALBUM COVER

-THE PHOTO USED WAS THE LAST PICTURE SHOT IN WHAT WAS A MARATHON ALL DAY PHOTO SESSION

-MOMENTS AFTER THE PICTURE WAS SHOT, GARY ROSSINGTON THREW UP ON THE SIDEWALK

-Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd HAS NOW SOLD OVER 4 MILLION COPIES WITH TOTAL SALES AND STREAMING

-ROLLING STONE MAGAZINE HAS RANKED THIS ALBUM AT #403 IN THEIR LIST OF “THE TOP 500 ALBUMS OF ALL TIME”

HERE’S A GREAT VERSION OF ‘SIMPLE MAN’
