A MARRIAGE GONE BAD

LAMONT’S MUSIC NOTES-FEB 6, 2019…ON THIS DAY IN 2001 GUITARIST DON FELDER RECEIVED A CALL FROM EAGLES MANAGER IRVING AZOFF TELLING HIM THE REST OF THE BAND HAS “DECIDED TO GO ON WITHOUT YOU.”

THE DEFINING MOMENT CAME WHEN FELDER AND FREY GOT INTO AN ON STAGE FIGHT IN CONCERT. ACCORDING TO GLENN FREY

“Things came to a head as the band wound up their 1980 tour with a benefit show in support of California senator Alan Cranston. According to Frey’s account, Mr Cranston came backstage before the concert to thank the band for their efforts, but Felder responded with a less-than-enthusiastic: “You’re welcome, Senator… I guess.” It led to a huge backstage row, with beer bottles smashed against the wall. “I felt Don Felder insulted Senator Cranston under his breath, and I confronted him with it,” said Frey. “So now we’re on stage, and Felder looks back at me and says, ‘Only three more songs till I kick your ass, pal.’ “We’re out there singing Best of My Love, but inside both of us are thinking, ‘As soon as this is over, I’m going to kill him.’

HERE’S WHEN THE GUYS WERE TALKING AND THEY GOT TOGETHER FOR THE “HELL FREEZES OVER” ALBUM AND TOUR.

FOO FIGHTERS, PERRY FARRELL, TOM MORELLO & ZAC BROWN BROUGHT THE ROCK TO ATLANTA THE NIGHT BEFORE THE BIG GAME

Over the weekend, Foo Fighters invited Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Farrell, Rage Against The Machine, Audioslave and Prophets of Rage guitarist Tom Morello, and Zac Brown onto the stage during their Super Saturday Night show in Atlanta, GA.

First, the Foo Fighters covered Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs” with Tom Morello and Zac Brown. Afterwards they welcomed Perry Farrell to the stage. Dave Grohl took a jab at the Super Bowl halftime show, which featured Maroon 5.

Dave Grohl said, “This ain’t no halftime shit, this is good time shit.”

Next, the Foo Fighters, Perry Farrell, Tom Morello and Zac Brown covered Jane’s Addiction “Mountain Song.”

As we all know, there has been a lack of rock presence over the years during the Super Bowl’s Halftime show. Last year, Dave Grohl revealed in an interview that he had talks with halftime show representatives before Maroon 5 were picked.

“I’ve had multiple conversations over the years with them where they say, ‘We want to have a rock and roll band. Do you think you could do it? Do you think you could do a stadium?”

“I was like, ‘Yeah man, we do it all the time,’” Grohl shrugged. “We’re like, ‘Oh my God, I think we’re gonna do the Super Bowl!’ And then it’ll be like, Madonna or Katy Perry or somebody like that.”

“I actually got really hammered at this party in France once, and got to meet the dude that does the Super Bowl thing, and I was like, ‘I don’t even want to do the Super Bowl!’,” Grohl slurred in an exaggerated drunk voice. “I used to want to do it. Now I don’t want to do it anymore!’”

“Not to be negative on Maroon 5, but it always seems to be the final chapter in your career,” Taylor Hawkins deadpanned.

“Yeah, I don’t know if it’s jumping the shark, I don’t know,” Grohl added laughing. “We’re just trying to come up with excuses why we haven’t done it.”

BRIAN JOHNSON REPORTEDLY CONFIRMS HE WILL BE ON THE NEW AC/DC ALBUM

Reports are coming out that Brian Johnson will appear on AC/DC’s upcoming studio album.

Rumors of Brian Johnson’s involvement with a new AC/DC record have been circulating for several months now. This all started when Brian Johnson and drummer Phil Rudd, along with guitarists Angus Young and Stevie Young, were spotted and photographed outside Vancouver’s Warehouse Studios.

At the time fans were speculating from the photos that AC/DC were in the middle of making — or at least planning — another album, with Rudd and Johnson both back in the band’s lineup. Reports have also indicated that Angus Young will dedicate the new AC/DC album to his late brother, Malcolm.

While AC/DC has yet to reveal any details of a new studio album, Brian Johnson apparently let the cat out of the bag recently when he ran into a band by the name of Terrorizer at an airport near his home in Sarasota, Florida.

Terrorizer is a grindcore trio, which features former Morbid Angel drummer Pete Sandoval. Terrorizer posted on their Facebook page a recap of their European tour. The Facebook post praised the other touring bands and they thanked their road crew. Also, Terrorizer added: “We ran into Brian Johnson from AC/DC at the airport today after the flight home and we asked him about the rumors of him being on the new AC/DC album and he said ‘yes’ and that he is ‘sick of denying it.’ So that was a cool surprise ending to the tour.”

If this is true, this is exciting news for all of us AC/DC fans.

The last few years have been very tough for AC/DC. Ever since the band completed their tour for its 2014 album “Rock Or Bust” more than two years ago, they lost founding member and guitarist, Malcolm Young. Plus, the departures of Brian Johnson, drummer Phil Rudd and bassist Cliff Williams. All of this combined has led fans to wonder whether the last remaining founding member Angus Young would keep the band going or decide it was time for AC/DC to call it a day.

In case you missed it, Brian Johnson was forced to leave AC/DC mid-tour due to hearing loss and was eventually replaced on the road by Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose. Cliff Williams decided to retire at the end of the cycle.

Below is the Facebook post from Terrorizer.

Rock Radio Personality Eddie Trunk discussed the possibility of AC/DC touring with Brian Johnson and releasing a new studio album.

“So I have a source that will remain nameless but a very, very, well-placed, reliable source regarding AC/DC who I did run into and ask about AC/DC. This source told me to his knowledge that album is done, that they went to that studio in Canada, made this record and what people speculated on, meaning these were riffs, ideas and more of a tribute to Malcolm Young is true. Meaning that Malcolm had a bunch of stuff recorded that they worked off of and they sort of incorporated the record. So, this is sort of a unity thing to come together, put out some of Malcolm’s music and celebrate AC/DC.“

Eddie Trunk added:

“This source also told me that they don’t know what they are going to do with this record, when and how it’s going to come out and adds that as far as he was aware and he would know, there are no plans for live shows. Now that could change but there are no plans at this moment to play. However, there was a recording done and they are going to figure out what they are doing with that. So that’s all he told me. He didn’t tell me about Axl or who is on it, he just basically said: “The guys went in, they went in off of some stuff that Malcolm had, it’s a celebration of Malcolm, there is a record done, whether and how that comes out they’re not sure and whether they play or not it’s not sure.”

At this point we just have to wait and see what’s next from AC/DC.

METALLICA CONGRATULATE NEW BASEBALL HALL OF FAMER MARIANO RIVERA

Recently, New York Yankees pitching legend Mariano Rivera became the first player to be unanimously elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame. In case you didn’t know, Mariano Rivera used to walk to the mound with Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” playing in the background. With that being said, Metallica recorded a special video congratulating the legendary closer.

As you can see in the video below, frontman James Hetfield said, “We, Metallica, took a vote here, and it’s unanimous. Congratulations from the entire Metallica family, Mariano, on your induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame.”

“It’s well deserved, and we look forward to watching you enter the Hall this summer,” added drummer Lars Ulrich.

The video was played for Mariano Rivera during his interview with the MLB Network. While Mariano called the shout-out “amazing” and the band members “great people,” he admitted that he’s actually not a huge fan of their music.

Responding to a question about how many Metallica shows he’s seen, Rivera laughed and said, “With all due respect to the guys, I’ve never been to one of them.”

Mariano added “As a Christian — again, with all my respect to Metallica and all the guys — I don’t listen to that kind of music. I listen to Christian music.”

Hopefully one day, Mariano Rivera can catch a Metallica concert and rock out to his own theme song in person.
